What happens when a Biogenetic engineer dashes through sandy beaches in her short ‘n’ sexy pink dress? People scream ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai!’ She’s not just an engineer from Tufts University, but also a gold Medallist in Economics. She is a typical beauty with brains combo! This Gujrati damsel is Amisha Patel. She was born on June 9th, 1979?
It was at a family dinner in the Roshan's house that Rakesh Roshan offered her a starring role in his film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). Amisha Patel stole hearts with her impressive performance in the film opposite Hrithik Roshan, the biggest Bollywood blockbuster of 2000. Other films, she worked in were Suno Sasurji with Aftab, Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage with Hrithik, Yeh hai Jalwa with Salman, Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar, all of which bombed at the box office. Then came Gadar, one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Indian cinema, in which she gave a stupendous performance and which included her in the top league of actresses in Bollywood.
She received numerous awards for her performance, but remained unaffected by it. “I have won an award every year for the four years that I have been here. But these can be bought. So how does it matter if you win one?” she says.
A shy girl but with a good sense of humor, Amisha believes in honesty and hates double standards and hypocrisy. “I’m a transparent person because I don’t like hypocrisy. I may not open up to someone quickly, but that doesn’t mean that I pretend. It’s too taxing.” avers Ms. Patel.
On the personal front, the hazel-eyed beauty spends most of her free time reading books and listening to Jagjit Singh. She is a foodie and loves ‘butter- chicken’ and ‘paranthas’. She considers her family, her greatest strength and is superstitious about names and numbers.
Amisha remains content with the way her life and career had shaped. “How many people go to bed every night happy with the work they’ve done? I certainly do”, quotes the hard working Amisha who believes in simple living. Her forthcoming films include much awaited The Rising opposite Aamir Khan, Elaan, Vaada and Jeevan Saathi. Recently, her handsome brother Ashmit Patel, too followed the footsteps of his sister and ventured into movies with Inteha and Murder to his credit.
